Opening times – Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5pm

Doreen Murray is an Educational Consultant with over 30 years of experience working with children, particularly in the area of reading and learning difficulties. She is passionate about language development and understands the critical role that reading plays in a child’s success at school. Her work focuses on helping children build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in their learning.
Doreen completed a BA in English followed by a Secondary Teaching Diploma at the University of Cape Town. She later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) through the University of South Africa. After moving to Sydney, she worked with the late Dr Gordon Serfontein helping to establish reading clinics within his practices. For the following 15 years she worked alongside Dr Geoff Crawford across Sydney and the Hunter region until his retirement in 2019.
Doreen continues to travel to Maitland several days each month to conduct learning assessments. She is also able to administer assessments for certain HSC Special Provisions using NESA-accredited WIAT-III subtests. These assessments are typically used when applying for provisions such as a reader, additional time, or in some cases a scribe depending on the student’s spelling results. Writing samples required for these applications must be completed by the school under timed conditions and therefore cannot be provided through the clinic.
Doreen remains strongly motivated by seeing children succeed in their education and takes great satisfaction in supporting families as children develop confidence in their reading and learning.
